Houses are sold for just £1 each in this bold housing experiment.
Liverpool City Council is selling off run-down, abandoned houses for just £1 each. But with the small price tag comes some big risks. People must invest their own money to do up the houses within 12 months, or the Council can take them back with no compensation. And they must commit to living in the houses for five years – in a neighbourhood known for crime and anti-social behaviour.
This series, filmed over two and a half years, captures the highs and the lows of the first-time buyers embarking on this bold housing experiment – the brainchild of Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson. He believes it is a risk worth taking to bring new life to a derelict area … but for the householders it means taking a risk with their family’s future.
