New Zealand has one of the highest rates of cancer in the world.
In this new TVNZ 1 local series, Dr Richard Babor (The Big Ward) sorts superstition from science in what he believes is our last great hope in the fight against “the big C”.
Passionate about food, the planet and personal wellbeing, Richard is, in effect, leading a life to avoid cancer – something he sees every day on the operating table as one of this country’s leading cancer surgeons.
With hundreds of surgeries under his belt, Richard is on the front line of cancer treatment in New Zealand. A few times each week, Richard has to tell a patient their case is terminal. It feels like a battle he’s losing. His biggest frustration is seeing people suffer from cancers that are preventable.
In How Not To Get Cancer, Richard is a man on a mission, exploring and experimenting his way around New Zealand.
He’ll look at our home-grown cutting-edge research, and ancient M?ori wisdom. He’ll examine the medical story, how wellbeing keeps us healthy and what nature can teach us about cancer avoidance.
What we eat, how we move and what we think all play a part in the fight against “the big C”.
