Gifted or talented children can be found in any family and in almost any classroom.
The number of bright and gifted people in New Zealand ranges between one and 10 per cent of the population, and near 40,000 of them are children. Some are profoundly gifted, while others are classified as very gifted.
New local TVNZ 1 series Brainboxes follows a group of gifted New Zealand children as they navigate their way through life as a child prodigy. While most might think being super academic or excelling musically or artistically would be fantastic, the reality is, it can be a lonely world unless you have the right support system. We discover how these kids bond with their peers, try to cope in conventional schools, as well as meeting their parents, who are trying to give them a ‘normal’ childhood, without holding them back.
